If you follow a few of the “it girl” bloggers then you are definitely aware of Teil Duncan, a Charleston artist known for her beach and bull scenes. Chris and I visited her studio at REDUX while we were in Charleston last Fall. It’s even in my Charleston Weekend Guide. Since then she has really taken off! I wish we had purchased an original piece back then so for now my beach print will have to do.
My mom gifted me with a large beach print for my birthday and I was eager to get it hung, but I needed to find a frame. I took it to Michael’s and they quoted me $280 with a 60% off discount. I was floored! I was thinking about $100 to get it matted and framed, but I wasn’t sure where it would end up so I was hesitant to commit. I had found several nice frames that were the exact size as the piece but I wanted mat around it. While walking through Walmart of all places to get plastic containers for organizing the study closet, I walked down the frame aisle and the dimensions were perfect. I had found a matted frame for less, way less than anywhere else!
The Mainstays frame I saw not only was the right dimensions but included a white mat! For only $22 I knew I could easily paint the frame (and repaint it, if needed) and I picked one up for my Teil print. I added a few coats of metallic silver before hanging it above the couch in our living area. I love how the colors complement my late grandmother’s chairs.
I’d love to recover our couch one day, but since we do not spend a lot of time in here I tend to focus my efforts on other areas. Do you need a big frame? Would you have ever thought to try Walmart?
